Jewellery to support Samaritans
By Charlotte Fantelli
Last year we told the story of Laura Rutter, an inspiring lady who beat depression and turned her passion for crafting and jewellery making, into a business.
We are now pleased to help her promote work she is doing for The Samaritans. Laura tells us: ‘Ever since I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2009 I have been a supporter of Samaritans. During my illness Samaritans were a great source of support for me, and now I want to give as much back to the charity as I can.”
The Samaritans is a national charity helping people find a listening ear and comfort in times of great trouble. The service is available 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair. They offer a helpline, email, letter, and face to face services, has been a great source of hope to many thousands of people who feel they have nowhere to turn.
Laura is jewellery designer and maker and has her own successful business called Vintage Princess Jewellery. As part of this, she already has a few pieces which she sells to raise money for the charity, but wanting to give back to the charity that helped her inspired a whole new range.
“To support Samaritan’s 24/7 Awareness Day in 2012 I am launching a new collection; ‘The Sams Collection’. Through the sale of these pieces I aim to raise money for the charity, as well as raising awareness of what they do.”
All pieces in ‘The Sams Collection’ feature a telephone - and the cost of a call for help to Samartians (£3.88) is donated from every piece sold.
The collection comprises of a necklace (£12), bracelets (£5.50) and earrings (£5). You can view and purchase from the collection in store, Vintage Princess Jewellery, Upstairs in City Attic, 74-76 North Road, Durham, DH1 4SQ and online through the website www.vintageprincessjewellery.co.uk
We wish Laura every success.
