Gary Speed found hanged aged 42
By Charlotte Fantelli
Footballing legend Gary Speed has been found dead at his home on the outskirts of Cheshire, aged just 42. It is hard to know what to write under such circumstances, how does one sum up a great man and such a tragedy? At this point speculation is rife and shock seems to be the overriding sense in the footballing community - how could such a professional, talented individual with seemingly so much to live for, be gone?
No-one knows what led to Gary Speed footballing legend, husband and father, being found hanged yesterday (Sun 27th November). It is yet undetermined what led this seemingly charmed man to such devistating of actions. It is unhelpful to speculate until further details come to light, but I wanted to write this article to provide sources of help for others that may be feeling how Gary did, before he took such drastic action.
So where do you turn for help?
It can be very difficult to seek help at times of emotional distress, especially with the added pressures of being a well known and respected individual. Mental health issues, suicidal intentions, depression and other afflictions are still stigmatised, yet 1 in 4 of us will at some point in our lives suffer with an 'mental illness'.
