Ok so the fact is you probably know smoking is bad for you, but what are the real facts and figures? The statistics Is it really as bad as people make out? Well, whether you are looking for this information as an incentive to give up smoking, or to to help someone else, the fact is; yes, it really IS that bad for you.

Quick facts
- In 2007, 107,000 people died from smoking- related diseases including cancers.
- 86% of lung cancer deaths in the UK are caused by tobacco smoking.
- In 2008, 22% of adult men were reported as cigarette smokers. 21% of adult women were reported as cigarette smokers.
- In 2008, around 10 million adults in the UK smoked cigarettes.
- By the age of 15 years, 15% of children in England are reported to be regular smokers, despite the fact it is illegal to sell tobacco product to under 18s.
- In 2009, 7% of girls and 5% of boys aged 11-15 years smoked at least one cigarette a week. On average, regular child smokers smoke 38 cigarettes per week.
