Street Soccer Scotland hosts first Christmas football match to help reduce isolation on Christmas day

Street Soccer Scotland, the social enterprise that uses football as a trigger to energise people who are socially excluded, is to hold its first Christmas Day football match.

When: Sunday 25th December 12pm

Where: Lochend Park, Edinburgh

Who: Football players from a range of homeless projects across Edinburgh; Street Soccer Scotland representatives; David Duke, CEO of Street Soccer Scotland refereeing the match dressed as Santa, past players from the Homeless World Cup teams

What: Football match between 12pm and 2pm; Christmas dinner between 2pm and 4pm at South Leith Baptist Church; a wide range of presents provided by supporters of Street Soccer Scotland including Nike

The match, which will be followed by Christmas dinner and presents, is aimed at socially disadvantaged adults and young people and will take place on Christmas Day at 12pm at Lochend Park, just a long throw-in from Easter Rd Stadium, in Edinburgh.

David Duke, chief executive of Street Soccer Scotland said: “Christmas is a tough time for lots of people and particularly difficult for those who have no contact with family or friends.  This fun match and Christmas dinner will reduce the isolation felt by providing a fun day, a warm meal and presents in the company of others.  We want to make Christmas day a positive experience for those who would normally spend it alone.”

David Duke added: “We’re delighted too to receive presents including football tops and training clothes from Nike to give to those who come along and we’d be more than happy to receive any other donations to help make this Christmas less difficult for those experiencing difficult times in their lives just now.”

The Christmas dinner will be held at the South Leith Baptist Church after the game.

Street Soccer Scotland is a social enterprise that uses football as a trigger to energize people who are socially excluded, combined with personal development and training to empower them to change their own lives for the better.
