SANE’s Black Dog unveiled by Adam Ant
By Charlotte Fantelli
SANE’s Black Dog campaign continues to raise awareness and inspire. Later this week at 11.30am, on June 28th, Adam Ant will be unveiling ‘Doctor Dog’, a Black Dog sculpture at Island Gardens Park in London’s Docklands.
Named in recognition of its sponsors, psychotherapist and author Anna Albright and her clinical colleagues, ‘Doctor dog’ joins SANE’s other Black Dogs at locations across the country.
The pop star who has very openly faced his own demons, was quoted last year in a BBC interview as saying ‘Mental health needs a great deal of attention. It's the final taboo and it needs to be faced and dealt with.’
SANE’s Black Dogs do just that; they are a presence not to be ignored, but talked about and faced, in a very public way. Adam Ant
Is taking time out from his tour with The Good The Mad and the Lovely Posse to be there to unveil the dog sculpture complete with the coat he personally designed for it.
Adam Ant says: "I am delighted to be involved in the Black Dog campaign which I feel is a fresh and exciting attempt to combat the stigma surrounding mental health. I think these beautiful sculptures will be a welcome addition to the London landscape and with their tactile quality will appeal to the whole family."
The Black Dog Campaign
As part of SANE’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Black Dog sculptures, each wearing a ‘SANE Collar of Hope’ and a ‘coat’ designed by a celebrity, artist or someone who has experienced mental illness, will be placed in cities across the UK. These act as a talking point, a symbol of hope, and a tool to raise awareness and not allow mental health to be hidden in the shadows.
