Well it has been a very long time since I last wrote a blog. Partly due to being very busy, partly through lack of feeling very inspiring. But today I am feeling rather proud of myself and want to share why...

Jane's inspiring story of recovery

Turning your life around - Jane’s Story

Mental Healthy are proud to present a heartwarming and inspirational short film about Jane.

BCHA's bchangemakers - Jane from Branded Video on Vimeo.

Recently, Mental Healthy Editor, Charlotte Fantelli, and her Production Company brandedvideoproduction.co.uk were asked to become involved with BCHA, a local Bournemouth charity committed to helping people in need; the homeless, vulnerable, and people with addiction and mental health issues. Their campaign ‘bchangemakers’ that can be found here http://bchangemakers.org.uk/ aims to tell 50 stories over 52 weeks, showcasing the stories of some of those they have helped over the 50-year history of the charity.

Jane had experienced a troubled childhood, and despite ‘every opportunity people would think was good’, it was hard, as her relationship with her parents was strained, as she says; ‘it is hard when your parents are not nice to you.’

Running pubs, Jane found it very easy to lose control over her drinking, but always ‘functioning’ she continued to hide any problem she had. Until tragedy struck. After Jane’s husband committed suicide in front of her, she turned further to drink and drugs in order to cope.

Her habit further spiralled out of control and Jane ended up prostituting herself to feed her addictions. Her mental and physical health deteriorated to the point that she was taken into hospital where she ended up in a coma and on life support.

She even had to learn to walk again. She hit her rock bottom and she had two choices. She, along with the help of great people along the way, including BCHA, Jane climbed the steps to recovery. She went into a dry house to help get sober, and this is where BCHA found her and offered her a home. She has never looked back.

11 years sober

Jane has now been sober for almost 11 years, and has found her voice in writing and performing. She inspires people with her story and her words. Helping others to write as therapy and to express what held her in darkness for so long, helps lead others to a place of light and refuge.

In this film we see how BCHA offers vital support to those in need, and the strength and courage of Jane herself to fight back from the devastating position she found herself in.

Charlotte Fantelli says; ‘It was a true honour to get to tell Jane’s story http://bchangemakers.org.uk/janes-story/. I was so moved by her passion for helping others and her writing. I had a team of people waiting for the footage to edit when I had filmed with Jane and yet I couldn’t part with it. I sat day and night editing it myself until it was right. I felt such a connection with Jane and her words I just didn’t want anyone else interpreting what I was honoured to capture.’

‘I am so very proud to be a part of this project and urge anyone who can, to support the wonderful work of BCHA https://www.bcha.org.uk/.’

Please watch Jane’s story and if you yourself are struggling with any of these issues know there is hope. Please share with others to inspire them also and tell this amazing lady’s story, and that of the charity that helped her.
